Roofing Warranties: What You Need To Know

Purchasers of a new roof are given 2 separate warranties. You receive a Manufacturers warranty from the company that made your shingles and you receive a workmanship warranty from the contractor
who installed the shingles on your roof.
• Manufacturer Warranty - The company that made your shingles offer's specific wind and life expectancy guarantees when you buy their product. Terms like Lifetime and wind ratings like 110 mph and 130 mph are guarantees that they offer to the consumer. They are the ones responsible for how long your shingles last and also how high of wind speeds they will sustain.
• Workmanship Warranty - The contractor who installs your roof offers these warranties which cover against leaks usually for a specified period of time. Standard lengths for these warranties run anywhere from 2-15 years. This warranty protects you after installation of your roof should you encounter a leak when it rains.
Unfortunately your workmanship warranty from your roofing contractor does not cover any Acts of God such as wars, fires and Hurricanes.
If you recently had a new roof installed and had some shingles blow off we sincerely understand how frustrating this can be, however try to understand that your roofing contractor is not at fault. Contractor's only offer general leak warranties however the manufacturer's who offer the 130 mph guarantees certainly are liable for their products not holding up to the given ratings.
If you had shingles blow off while still under warranty you can call the manufacturer and file a claim. Below we have included the warranty phone numbers of all the main shingle manufacturers who offer 130 mph wind guarantees.
• GAF 1-800-755-9392
• Certainteed 1-800-345-1145
• Tamco 1-800-641-4691
• Owens Corning 1-800-GET-PINK
If you had major damage as a result of the hurricane you will need to file a claim with your homeowners insurance company and also contact the manufacturer of your shingles. We recommend filing an insurance claim because sometimes shingle manufacturer's are not always as fast to act as your insurance company will be.
As always, we here at Barfield Contracting & Associates want to provide the best quality services to our customers. If you are a previous customer and you have not contacted us yet, please do so via Facebook Private message with your name, address, phone number and date of installation as well as any photos of the damage and we will call you as soon as possible.
Thank you!
